1 Description It occurs as a white to yellowish fibrous or granular powder.

Test (B)
(A) A blue to blue-violet color, due to formaldehyde, develops in about 20 min.
(B) A green color, due to acetaldehyde, develops.
3 Solubility It is soluble in water, in solutions of dilute organic acids, and, depending on the degree of esterification, in hydroalcoholic mixture containing up to 60% by weight of alcohol to form stable, viscous colloidal solutions at a pH of 3.
4 Free Carboxyl groups The weight of free carboxyl groups found, calculated on the dried basis is not more than 35% of the weight of carbon dioxide yielded by an equal weight of specimen in the assay.
5 Esterified Carboxyl groups The weight of esterified carboxyl groups found, calculated on the dried basis is 40%–85% of the weight of carbon dioxide yielded by an equal weight of specimen in the assay.
6 Arsenic Not more than 3 ppm.
7 Lead Not more than 5 μg of lead.
8 Loss on drying Not more than 20.0%.
9 Ash Not more than 10% on the dried basis.
10 Assay Not less than 0.16 g and not more than 0.20 g of carbon dioxide/g of Propylene Glycol Alginate, calculated on the dried basis.

PACKAGING

MOLPROP™ PGA is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in well-closed containers.
